The name AROHI embodies the principles of finding joy in the journey, remaining steadfast despite difficulties, and believing that with faith and courage, all will be well. In this case it signifies the importance of hard work and unity, not only as individual drummers but as a collective where each member becomes an integral part of a harmonious whole. The inspiration behind the name comes from the hymn "Come, Come, Ye Saints," which symbolizes faith, perseverance, and hope in the face of challenges. The relevance of the name to our group lies in the fact that most of our founding drummers had no prior experience with Tahitian drums before January 2023. Despite their diverse backgrounds, they share a passion for learning and improving their drumming skills, supporting each other through mistakes and challenges to become a cohesive and skilled team.
The hymn
’A haere ā, te feiā mo’a ē,
Ma te ’oa’oa,
’E au ānei, ’e ’ati tō ’outou?
Haere ā i mua.
’Ia tāmata tātou ato’a,
’Ia haere pūai e maita’i ai!
E nā reira noa tātou,
’Arohi! ’Arohi!
