According to Plan

According to Plan is a rom-com short film that asks ‘How can we know the difference between the God of the universe and the god in our heads?’ While that question is a deep theological one, this film plans to ask it with brevity and humour by bringing the god in our head to life as ‘Brother William,’ a sixteenth-century monk, now guardian angel for young and hopeful Kyle. Follow Kyle as he does his best to follow ‘god’s’ plan and, when all is said and done, finds the deeper truth of God’s presence in our lives. 

With this crowdfunding, we are raising money to cover the various costs to make this film – paying crew, paying for locations, costumes, and actors – so that we can create a quality story for your entertainment. 

Our team consists exclusively of emerging artists across multiple fields in Poneke, Wellington. Our cast are all recent graduates of Te Auaha’s arts program, and our crew comprises graduates and current students of Yoobee College. While this is a young team, we are all excited to use this project to expand our experience and skills while passionately creating a story worth telling. 

To make a film, even a small one, requires a large team; this funding will help us continue the careers of each crew member, cast member, and post-production team member on this project. We will provide a koha of, at minimum, $100 to each.

This funding will also be used to cover the following filming costs:

• Location permits
• Costumes
• Camera rentals
• Sound production
• Publicity
• Food for the day
• Vehicle fuel.

According to Plan will be the first film of many under the Christian arts company Ruach Creations. Rauch is pronounced ‘roo-ach’ and means ‘God’s breath’ in Hebrew. That is our mission – to create stories with God in mind and invite the Creator to lift up our work. We believe that Christian art is art that suggests beauty, encourages life, and inspires purpose. 

In keeping with those beliefs, this film is designed not only to entertain but also to serve as a tool for spiritual circles to discuss our own perceptions of God. We do not aim to market our own beliefs but to create a film that causes an audience member to think and question their own idea of god versus the truth of the Christian God; i.e., one that is singular and is a cosmic being outside of our own universe. And what better way to do that than with a bit of humour? 

Here at Ruach, we desire to create works that build up our community by providing theatre and films that inspire, give hope, and encourage us to fight on in this present time. While we are Christian, we do not limit ourselves to working only with those who share the faith. We are all God’s children, searching and yearning for hope and salvation. In keeping with this, According to the Plan wants to entertain you, make you laugh a great deal, and give you hope that God is looking out for you. 

Backing this project will let the young emerging artists know that these kinds of stories – stories filled with creativity and joy – are welcome and needed in your community. And, most importantly, keep our team fed and able to do their best work.
