The Project

When a young sex worker’s client dies mid-session, he must figure out how to handle the situation before it spirals out of his control - all while becoming fixated on a trivial text about milk.

We’re crowdfunding to bring this 8-minute student short film to life at a high level, ensuring the film’s execution matches the strength of its concept.

The Team

Milk. is being created by a team of passionate and dedicated film students from Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington. We are a small, all-women crew completing our undergraduate arts degrees, each bringing our own creative and technical strengths to the project.

Crew:

  • Producer / AD – Billie Carey

"Kia ora team! I’m Billie Carey, and I have the honour of being the producer and 1st AD for this great little film. I’m really excited to bring this script to life and work with such a talented, wonderful group of women."

  • Director – Lulu Lance

"Kia ora ko Lulu taku ingoa. Hi! My name's Lulu and I'm directing Milk. I have a passion for exploring grounded, human stories that exist in quiet or strange moments. I am excited to be adapting such a wonderful screenplay that has been given to our crew."

  • Director of Photography – Jia Sharma

"Hi! I'm Jia and I am intent on capturing the two sides of Milk's story, one that is comedic, and one that is chilling. With a background in photography, I've got a visual style that favours contrast and storytelling."

  • Sound Recordist / Mixer – Abi Tuckey

"Hey I’m Abi and am doing sound recording & mixing for Milk. I am particularly excited to learn more about sound, be part of an awesome crew, and make such a cool film!"

  • Gaffer / Editor – Lucy Danko

"Hi! My name's Lucy Danko and I'm excited to be the gaffer and editor for this project. I have a passion for editing and am looking forward to piecing this short-film together in post, helping create a final product which honors the awesome script. I'm also excited to work on my lighting skills and with our female crew."

The Funding

The money raised through this campaign will go directly into the production of Milk.

Your support will contribute to:

  • Catering – Feeding our cast and crew across shoot days
  • Locations – Securing and dressing appropriate filming spaces
  • Transport – Moving cast, crew, and equipment efficiently
  • Production Design & Props – Creating a believable and cohesive world

If we reach our minimum goal of $600 we are hoping to reach a stretch goal that will allow us to give koha to our cast and also support post-production costs like film festival submissions.

The Details

Milk. is one of four scripts selected for production in Victoria University’s 300-level Short Film Production course. Written by Larry McMyler, the script has a distinct tone - balancing dark comedy with an underlying sense of moral tension and absurdity.

At its core, Milk. is a story about morality. It examines the gap between knowing and wanting to do the 'right' thing and actually doing it, especially when fear and self-preservation take over.

We are drawn to this project because of its tonal complexity. It sits in a space that is slightly surreal, slightly comedic, and deeply human. Our goal is to create a film that feels grounded and authentic while allowing the absurd elements to make their mark.

This crowdfunding campaign will help us elevate the film beyond the limitations of a self-funded student budget - supporting a more polished, intentional, and impactful final product

The Impact

Milk. is a film that invites audiences to sit in on an unconventional moral dilemma that is as humorous as it is honest.

As an all-women crew, we are passionate about creating opportunities for ourselves and each other in an industry where early experience and collaboration are everything.

We want Milk. to reach audiences beyond the classroom and be a film that is both entertaining and emotionally resonant.
