The Project
Kia ora!
We are Tap NZ, New Zealand's leading Tap Dance Company. We are representing New Zealand on the world stage at the World of Dance Summit in California in July! This is the first time New Zealand has ever staged a Tap performance at this global event. We are now kindly asking for donations to help us get Tap Dance onto this iconic stage!
Thank you everyone :)
The Team
Kia ora,
I am Brandon Carter-Chan, Director of Tap NZ. I have been Tap Dancing for over 20 years having won the PACANZ New Zealand National Tap Championship in 2014. Since then I have been bringing Tap Dance to stages all over the world.
I am Co-Choreographing this performance with my brother Cameron Carter-Chan who actively engages in Tap Dance, Street Dance and Professional Screen Acting across New Zealand.
We are a team of 7 passionate Tap Dancers including two incredible dancers from Australia and Switzerland who have flown all the way to New Zealand to train with us.
Our creative practice is centered around Tap Dance Innovation with a vision to change the way people think about Tap. We want people to experience a Tap Dance that is grounded in rhythm with a unique twist on its movement. A modern approach that involves fusing Tap Dance with the qualities of Street Dance. We have a very strong Street Dance culture in New Zealand having influenced our approach to Tap. Shows such as Tap Dogs and STOMP who we have had the privilege of working with its members have also inspired our creative approach. We believe Tap Dance has the power to make a real impact on stages all over the world and we intend to prove it in this performance!
The Funding
We are raising money to help pay for our teams specialist stage equipment. Tap performances are often expensive to amplify our sound in large venues. The impact of a Tap performance is the sound you hear as an audience.
We have designed and fabricated special Tap Boards that will be used throughout the performance to enhance our sound and deliver visual impact. We are also setting the stage up with floor mics that will be used to pick up the sounds of our Tap. Your donations will help us stage this performance to ensure our sound is seen and heard on a stage as important as this.

The Details
We are bringing a high energy performance to the world stage that will push the boundaries of a Tap Dance performance.
Performing at the World of Dance Summit puts New Zealand Tap Dance in front of a global audience meaning huge exposure for our community. Tap performances are extremely rare at World of Dance with only a handful of people representing this style. We also see this as a huge opportunity to bring Tap Dance to a greater audience in general, strengthening the global Tap community through New Zealand. This is why we are engaging in this project, to bring greater exposure to Tap for the benefit of our communities.
In this performance we are also being joined by two incredible dancers from Australia and Switzerland. We will not only make history by staging the first Tap performance at World of Dance from New Zealand, but also the first to bring an international Tap team together for this event. We are very excited to stage such a special performance where dancers from different Tap communities have joined forces.
The Impact
This performance needs to be presented at World of Dance as it will greatly impact the opportunities for our Tap communities. World of Dance is one of largest global dance platforms for artist exposure and we intend to represent Tap in the strongest way possible to show the world how powerful Tap Dance can be. By extending our reach to a global dance network more people will come to love and appreciate Tap. This will boost awareness and produce more opportunities for talented Tap Dancers that deserve to be heard.
We are a team that cares deeply about Tap Dance as an art form regularly attending and supporting the authenticity of Tap at festivals such as the Stockholm Tap Fest and Australian Tap Fest.
We would greatly appreciate all the support we can get so we can represent all passionate Tap Dancers at this iconic event!
