The Project

Project Overview:

I am heading to The Surgery in Pōneke for three days with Lee Prebble (the "Doctor" behind the sounds of L.A.B, The Phoenix foundation and Trinity Roots) to record a new album.

This project is a response to life in Aotearoa right now. As a dad and a partner, I’m watching our political leaders fail the people and the land we call home. These songs come from that feeling—capturing the love we have for our families, particularily our kids, and our "beautiful home," set against the frustration of seeing it failed by those in power.

Why the November Elections?
Timing is important. The hope is this album can contribute to the conversation. I plan to have these songs available online before the November elections, providing another voice to those of us looking for more from our leadership.

How You Can Help
Boosted is an all-or-nothing platform. If I don't hit the target, your donation is returned and the project doesn't get funded. But if I do, the money will go toward:

  • Studio time at The Surgery.
  • The best engineering, mixing and mastering to ensure the songs sound the best they can.

The Team

This project is supported by my whānau and friends—the people who keep me well and encouraged. But beyond family and friends, I’m looking to a wider community of artists, activists, and thinkers. I hope anyone who believes music can make an important contribution to social discussion will find a home with this kaupapa

The Funding

Funding Breakdown

The goal is to raise enough to cover the essential production costs for this album. To keep things simple and focused, the money will go toward:

  • Studio Production: Two days of recording and one day of mixing at The Surgery with Lee Prebble.
  • Post-Production: mastering to ensure the songs are radio-ready.
  • Logistics: Essential travel to Pōneke, modest accommodation, and food for the three days.

Why this amount?

This budget is streamlined to ensure the highest possible quality for the tracks while remaining realistic. By reaching this target, I can focus entirely on the performance and the message of the songs during our limited time in the studio.

The Details

The aim is to create a great record. These songs have been three years in the making, and I am keen to do my best by them. I believe recording with Lee is the way to do this. It is also a privilege and I am super excited.

As Greta Thunberg says,  "hope is not feeling that everything will be alright. Hope is what gets you to feel a meaning, and to get up and fight for what you believe is right."

I agree, and I hope these songs do just that, fight for what is right.

It would be great if you wanted to support and be part of this. Ngā mihi ki a koutou.

The Impact

Art and stories have the ability bring together personal struggle and political action. The possibility for this album is to provide shared feelings and thoughts for those who feel frustrated by the current landscape but remain invested.

I'd like these songs to be heard widely—not for the sake of the music alone, but for solidarity.  To act as a support and a collective heart for things to be better.
