Overview
Ko Leah toku ingoa. My name is Leah and I am a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and arts advocate. For the past two years, I have been based in New York City and I need my community's help to remain here and keep my dream alive!
In 2023, I was fortunate enough to receive a Fulbright award to study a Masters of Arts Management and Entrepreneurship at the New School. While studying, I have found life-changing mentorship, community and opportunities to become the artist I always hoped I could be. But the journey is not over yet!
I have been offered the opportunity to study for another two years at the New School, at the Mannes School of Music in the composition department, with my inspiring mentor Mary Kouyoumdjian. Over the next two years, I will be able to hone my composition craft in order to write music for electronics, contemporary classical music and film.
I face financial challenges to continue my NYC dream! While my fees have been covered by a 100% merit scholarship from the New School, I am unable to cover all of my living expenses. International students are restricted to 20 hours a week of work, so while I have a job (in the production department of the school orchestra) I can only cover my living expenses excluding rent. Any donations from my fundraising campaign will go towards my rent payments to keep me in the city that is transforming my life and creative practice.

Project Updates
Thank you and update!
Kia ora!
Last year I frantically fundraised to cover the costs of getting back to New York City to complete a graduate diploma in music composition at my dream music school - the Mannes School of Music.
In the past year I have written for orchestra, chamber ensembles, film projects, solo projects and ventured into electronic music. None of this would have been possible without your donations which helped me cover the initial costs of relocating back to this crazy city.
Its been just under a year since this fundraising campaign and I have completed the first year of my studies! I have one more year to go and will be graduating in May 2027. I wanted to write to you - my donors - to express my thanks at the halfway mark. Your donations made my dream possible and haven't been forgotten!
I have several projects on the horizon with various artists from different disciplines. If you would like updates on that work make sure to follow me on social media @leahjanemusic or check out my website www.leahjanemusic.com
You'll be able to see some of the work your donations helped me make on my YouTube account @leahjanemusic or Bandcamp! If you want to be in touch email me at leahjmthomas@gmail.com
Thank you again for your generosity and wishing you all the best for the rest of 2026! Much love and gratitude,
Leah Jane x
