Overview
You’re going to boarding school…
Five girls have spent five years growing up together at boarding school. Bound by shared laughter, tears, and hardship, their bond feels unbreakable. Until their final week together, when buried secrets surface and test everything they thought they knew about each other.
A new work in development theatre piece, created by Waikamania Seve – Debuting at BATS Theatre as part of the 2026 Wellington Fringe Festival.

The Remaining is going to Australia! TĒNEI TE MIHI AROHA ❤️

“Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini.”
My strength is not that of a single warrior, but that of many.
Kia ora koutou!
Today we share one last post as we close the debut season of The Remaining. From the very beginning this kaupapa has been carried by so many hands, hearts, and voices. Without the aroha, generosity, and support from our community, this season simply would not have been possible.
Our first season ran from the 26–28th at BATS Theatre as part of the NZ Fringe Festival 2026. Across those three nights we were incredibly humbled to have three sold-out shows. Seeing so many of your beautiful faces in the audience, feeling the energy in the room, and sharing this story with you meant more to us than words can truly express.
Your support made real and tangible impacts on this production. Your donations help us pay our cast, secure song rights, purchase materials for costume design, and ensure our kaiawhina and collaborators were acknowledged and compensated for the mahi they brought to the project. Every contribution, big or small, helped bring this story to life. For that, we are deeply grateful.
BIG NEWS!
Last night the NZ Fringe Festival hosted its Awards Ceremony at The Hannah. These awards celebrate emerging artists and recognise work that shows strong potential for further development and future seasons. The cast and crew of The Remaining felt incredibly honoured to receive six nominations, including one category where every nominee came from our own cast.
Awards won:
• Waikamania Seve (Writer & Director) – Most Promising Emerging Ngā Toi Artist (Supported by CNZ Te Hā o ngā Toi Māori Arts Strategy)
• Melbourne Fringe Indigenous Exchange Award (Supported by Melbourne Fringe & NZ Fringe)
Nominated:
• Parekawa Finlay (Directing Kaiawhina) – Most Promising Emerging Ngā Toi Artist (Supported by CNZ Te Hā o ngā Toi Māori Arts Strategy)
• Ocean Manutulila (Whaea Brooke) and Heinrich Muller (Kahu) – Most Promising Pasifika Artist (Supported by CNZ Pacific Arts Strategy)
• Outstanding Ensemble Award (Supported by an Anonymous Benefactor)
• Best in Fringe (Supported by His Worship the Mayor)
These acknowledgements speak not only to the talent within our team, but also to the strength and vibrancy of the wider performing arts whānau around us. We are proud to stand alongside so many incredible artists who are telling powerful stories and uplifting our communities.
Because of the support from Melbourne Fringe and NZ Fringe, we are excited to share that The Remaining will continue its journey with a second touring season in Melbourne.
From our whānau to yours, thank you for standing beside us, believing in this kaupapa, and helping us carry this story forward.
Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa. ❤️
